The Brain Trust is a collective of professionals in the field of philanthropy working to build better relationships between all those who serve NYC Metropolitan Area communities and to leverage increased support for important community-based initiatives. The Brain Trust currently consists of Anthony Simmons, Chad U Jones, Kevin Ryan, Marcus Walton and Philip Giles.

The theme? The New Majority: Change and Philanthropy. The Brain Trust and EPIP are both groups that represent a growing number of young people in the field of philanthropy. Our generation will represent both our grantees and ourselves as the changing “new majority” takes place in the United States. We want to celebrate that fact in this season of giving and gratitude with a fabulous Giveback!

Join us in celebrating the efforts of the United We Dream Network (UWD) in achieving deferred action for undocumented youth and in supporting the actions of the work ahead! UWD is a national immigrant youth-led network of over 40 affiliates in 30 states that organizes and advocates for access to college and a path to citizenship for ALL.

For the past 2 years UWD leaders have been organizing for administrative relief for undocumented immigrant youth. In the midst of record-high deportations, anti-immigrant laws, and the implementation of inhumane enforcement programs, UWD held dozens of actions around the country, mobilized thousands of immigrant youth, conducted legal research, and brought together leaders from the labor, civil rights, and faith sectors to demand that the Obama Administration to stop detaining and deporting immigrant youth. As a result of this arduous work, President Obama announced on June 15, 2012 that his administration would grant temporary relief for Dream Act eligible undocumented youth.

The United We Dream (UWD) Network’s mission is to develop a sustainable, grassroots movement, led by immigrant youth, both documented and undocumented, and children of immigrants to reach equal access to higher education and a path to citizenship for immigrant youth and their families. Their work focuses on leadership development, organizing, policy advocacy, alliance building, training, and capacity building to pursue their mission at the local, state, and national levels.
